Courts and Civil Division

      The Lea County Sheriff's Office Courts Division is supervised by a Chief Deputy as the administrative oversight.  The Chief Deputy supervises  the current Sergeant assigned to that rotation.  The Sergeant is responsible for the day to day scheduling of deputies for transports to and from the courts, extraditions from outside jurisdictions, transports to correctional facilities or rehabs.  The sergeant also supervises permanent assigned civil deputies who's primary focus is the serving of all subpoenas, summons, writs, temporary restraining orders, garnishments, evictions, etc...  The Civil Deputies also assist the court deputies when the court's case lode is excessive.    The responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office is to support the District Court's 4 Judges, as well as the 6 Magistrate Courts in the County.  The Sergeant also supervises two District Court Security Deputies.  These Deputies are the TSA of the Courthouse, ensuring no unauthorized items or weapons are allowed to enter the Courtrooms.  Also assisting with the movements of in custody persons through the building.
