Criminal Investigations Section
The Lea County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section is supervised by a Chief Deputy as the administrative oversight. The Chief Deputy supervises the CIS Sergeant who then supervises the Investigators. CIS handles major felonies and most sex crimes. The division personnel from Sergeant to investigator all work cases and are on call on a rotating basis. CIS assists patrol with search warrants and in the collection and processing of evidence. CIS will also focus on current trends of crimes to try to prevent spikes in occurrences.
The Investigator's have all received advanced training in numerous fields to assist in the investigation of crimes. From crime scene photography, trajectory, blood spatter, collection of latent prints, fibers, DNA to name a few.
