Patrol Division
The Lea County Sheriff's Office Patrol Section is supervised by a Chief Deputy as the administrative oversight. The Chief Deputy supervises two Captains, one days, one nights which rotates. Each Captain supervises two Sergeants. The Sergeants directly supervise a handful of Deputies. Sergeants approve their Deputy's reports, contact cards, citations, arrests, etc... Sergeants rotate assignments from Days, Nights and Courts. Deputies take criminal reports from the citizens as well as enforce state criminal and traffic laws. Deputies perform follow-up and investigate most of the cases they respond to. Major crimes and the majority of sex crimes are referred to the Criminal Investigative Section for follow-up. Deputies will handle most cases from report to court. Deputies also have a rotating schedule from Days, Nights, and Courts.
